What is an MOT?
An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is an annual vehicle safety, roadworthiness, and emissions inspection required in the UK for most vehicles over three years old. The test ensures that vehicles meet legal standards to be driven on public roads.
The MOT test checks various components, including:
✅ Brakes – Efficiency and condition
✅ Lights – Functionality and alignment
✅ Tyres & Wheels – Tread depth and damage
✅ Suspension & Steering – Stability and responsiveness
✅ Exhaust & Emissions – Environmental compliance
✅ Seatbelts – Condition and security
✅ Windscreen & Wipers – Visibility and effectiveness
A valid MOT certificate is required for road tax renewal and insurance validity. If a vehicle fails, it must be repaired and retested before being legally driven again.
